UPDATE: Apparently I was right. New Wash Post poll out today finds that when it comes to "protecting the middle class" the public favors Obama (50%) over Republicans (35%). Overall his approval rating has taken a sharp increase since early October at 49% while Republicans in Congress have fallen sharply to a pitiful 20% approval rating.
Apparently the flush Democratic side of the campaign donation ledger has left our media in a fuzzle. They can’t figure out why – after 87 new Republican House Members were elected in 2010 – the public seems to leaning Democratic again.
Really? They can’t figure it out?
Of course when the corporations-who-are-people weigh in later, things may change since they do have a lot of money to throw at our elections. On the other hand, I have to wonder how local polling precincts make sure that when Lockheed Martin or Raytheon show up to cast their vote it’s the right “person?” Do corporations-who-are-people have driver’s licenses? Photo ID’S? Birth certificates? (Oh, no that won’t do will it?) I mean if Blacks, Latinos and Old People have to show government provided photo identification, will corporations be required to as well? Even more confusing, how do you distinguish between a genuine American corporate-person and some off-shore-subsidiary-tax-haven-overseas-corporate-person? Do they have to show their Green Cards? N-600 Form? Last year’s tax returns? After all, while I’m fairly liberal on immigration issues we certainly don’t want some foreigner voting in our elections do we? Oh, but then, we do have a Muslim, non-native, un-American person as our current President don’t we.
Couple of recent articles about how Democrats are out-fund-raising Republicans right now apparently have thrown many of our National Pundits into a black hole of confusion and angst. To Wit: A Washington Post article stated that Obama has raised more money so far this time than during his 2008 campaign and more than the Republican frontrunners combined. The bulk of his donations were $200 or less meaning that the coalition he formed for his 2008 run is still largely intact. On the House Democrat side, even though there was that Tea Party “mandate” in the 2010 elections, House Democrats have raised $52.1 million compared to House Republicans who have raised $48.7 million. Again, $22.6 million of the Democrat total was from small donors at less than $200 a pop.

Okay, so let me offer up one reason that just might, might maybe, have something to do with the situation: Republican idiocy! Rather than take the nation’s current condition seriously and act as if they were Americans rather than Colonial Tea Party aliens from Mars, Republicans have dug in to thwart Obama’s re-election in 2012 to the exclusion of everything else. EVERYTHING! Well, it’s beginning to look like they may have dug that hole a bit too deep. This week’s payroll tax extension agreement reached last Friday is a bit of a change for the Republican House Majority. BUT WAIT!!!! Just yesterday Boehner and his Tea Party minions threw a wringer into the deal by saying that “2 months” wasn’t enough. WTF????? They really just don’t get it do they?
